A Signing with Buzz (2/13)

Friday, February 13th, 2009

It's time for the Tremont Art Walk (Friday night) and what better way to kick off the festivities than to stop by Visible Voice for a book signing with John Gorman and The Buzzard.

This rock and roll radio memoir takes you behind the scenes at the nation's hottest station during FM's heyday, from 1973 to 1986. Sex and drugs, music and merchandising, it was a wild time when the FM airwaves were wide open for innovation. John Gorman led a small band of true believers who built Cleveland's WMMS from a neglected stepchild into an influential powerhouse. The station earned high praise from musicians and even higher ratings from listeners. Gorman tells how WMMS remade rock radio while Cleveland staked its claim as the "Rock and Roll Capital" by breaking many major international music acts.

Filled with juicy insider details, this fast-paced story will entertain anyone who listened in during those glory days when FM delivered excitement and the Buzzard ruled the airwaves.

Eat a Book (2/07)

Saturday, February 7th, 2009

Joseph Beth Books at Legacy Village invites you to join them as they welcome author and budhist psychologist Pavel Somov as he introduces his new book "Eating the Moment."

This book is filled with techniques, exercises and tools to help you control overeating. These practices can be used at mealtimes to develop a more positive and healthy relationship to food. You'll learn to develop awareness of the experience of eating and become more centered around your eating. By developing habitual awareness and a playful attitude about the process of eating, you will find that your eating slows down, becoming less compulsive and dictated by external forces such as boredom, emotional pain, or habit.

There are 141 specific exercises in the book to promote mindful eating. Also included are brief discussions of why we eat and stop eating, mindfulness principles, finding meaning in food and the act of eating, and guidance for developing a personal "philosophy of eating."

Somov will be on hand at 2pm to discuss the thought behind the book and the helpful techniques. Book signing available. www.josephbeth.com

What to do with all the Zucchini?

Although she doesn’t reside in, or even near Cleveland (Paris, France). Clotilde Dusoulier author of Chocolate and Zucchini knows just what to do with this years overflowing crop of zucchini. The 28 year old Parisian whips up the best recipes while keeping French cooking to it's most simple form.

My dear friend Doug has a fabulous culinary garden and at this time of year it is overflowing with zucchinis so we decided to "test" Clotilde's recipe for Chocolate and Zucchini Cake. In addition to being a deep and beautiful shade of brown, the cake has a voluptuous chocolate flavor. Let's just say, one would never know that the cake is actually good for you. You must try it for yourself.
